AI for Health: From Models to Meaningful Impact

DHI Cluster is organizing a new event from its knowledge-building series DHI TO(al)K, dedicated to fostering knowledge exchange and building a sustainable digital health community.

This edition, titled “AI for Health: From Models to Meaningful Impact,” explores how artificial intelligence moves beyond theoretical models to become a real instrument for better, more precise, and accessible healthcare.

The event will bring together leading experts and innovators from Bulgaria’s digital health ecosystem to showcase practical examples of AI in medicine – from data analysis and imaging to intelligent platforms that enhance doctor–patient interaction.

A special highlight of this edition will be the participation of Dr. Ayis T. Pyrros, an international guest speaker from the United States, who is an expert in medical imaging and the application of AI in population health management and chronic disease prevention, invited on the initiative of our member company MY Synergy.

Speakers and Topics

Ayis T. Pyrros, MD

Topic: From Data to Decisions: How AI Can Transform Population Health

Dr Ayis T. Pyrros is a radiologist and AI researcher with over 20 years of clinical and academic experience in the United States. He is Board-Certified in Diagnostic Radiology, Neuroradiology, and Clinical Informatics, and serves as Section Chief of Neuroradiology at Duly Health and Care in Illinois. He is also an NIH-funded postdoctoral fellow and adjunct faculty at the University of Illinois Chicago.

Dr Pyrros is the author of numerous publications in Nature Communications, PLOS Digital Health and other leading journals, focusing on how AI can extract clinically useful insights from routine medical imaging. His research teams developed models that can predict the risk of chronic diseases – including type 2 diabetes – by analyzing chest radiographs with deep learning, and created explainable CT-based biomarkers for estimating biological age and preventive care stratification.

Today Dr Pyrros works on a new population health model that combines AI, radiology data, and large language models to support early risk detection and preventive interventions at scale. The project aims to help health systems move from reactive care to proactive health management – linking data science to real-world clinical impact.
