Phone, telemedicine, medicine… what’s the difference?

Telemedicine was first mentioned back in 1925.
In the February issue of the American technology magazine Science and Invention, Hugo Gernsback predicted a device for virtual home medical examinations called the “teledactyl” (from Greek: tele, distant; dactyl, finger). It would allow doctors not only to see their patients through a screen but also to touch them remotely using robotic arms…
Does this sound familiar?
Today, robotic surgery is already the standard in many healthcare facilities, and COVID-19 has further accelerated the adoption of telemedicine. The introduction of various telemedicine solutions now enables a full medical examination remotely. It also allows for continuous monitoring of vital signs, both for preventive purposes and for the treatment of chronic patients. All of this is supported by new technologies for data processing and analysis, which make it possible to even “predict” changes in the health condition of the examined individuals.
We will discuss telemedicine today and telemedicine tomorrow on July 28, 2022, at the next event in the Connect series of professional events organized by Ratio and Sofia Tech Park, this time with the support of DHI Cluster Bulgaria.
